How to Create Stunning Ombre Inking Effects for Cardmaking

In this card project, I made a beautiful and sparkly birthday card using a variety of Gina K Designs products. I used Tranquil Teal, In the Navy, and Dark Lilac Inks for an ombre inking effect on the Let Your Dreams Be Your Wings Stamp Set. I then heat embossed the image with WOW! sparkle embossing powder to add shimmer and shine. The square panels were cut out with Master Layouts 3, and I used Clear Dew Drops to embellish the card front. The ‘Let Your Dreams Be Your Wings’ Stamp Set is one of this month’s incentive sets from Gina K Designs. You can view the stamp set in my July 2025 Gina K Designs Card Kit Unboxing. All products used in making this project are listed below.

Ombre Stamping With the Let Your Dreams Be Your Wings Stamp

For this card, I cut out the square pieces using the Master Layouts 3 die set. I used the Gina K Designs White Heavyweight Cardstock for the white square, and Tranquil Teal for the mat layer. I taped the white square into my Misti Stamping Tool to make sure it did not shift during the multiple rounds of stamping. Since I was using three colors to do the ombre stamping, I focused on inking the top third with Tranquil Teal, the middle third with In the Navy, and the bottom third with Dark Lilac.

After applying each ink color, I used my Gina K Designs Blending Brush to feather out the harsh edges left on the stamp by the ink pads. This ensures a smooth color transition from one color to the next and helps create the ombre effect.

Sparkle Heat Embossing on the Ombre Image

Since I did not move the stamp or the stamped image, the stamp was still perfectly lined up and ready for the next step. I used the Simon Says Stamp Anti-Static Powder tool over the stamped image, then stamped the image twice using Simon Says Stamp Embossing Ink. Next I removed the panel from my Misti and positioned it over a catch paper, and poured the WOW! Sparkle Embossing Powder over the image.

I then used my Chandler Heat Tool to melt the powder. Because the powder contains glitter, I heated the powder from the back of the panel first so the glitter would not blow away. Once the powder was melted, I heated it from the front to make sure everything was fully melted.

Putting the Card Together, Decorating the Inside

After heat embossing, the white panel was a little warped, so I used 1/2″ Scor-Tape to add the panel to the Tranquil Teal mat layer. Once that was attached, I used my tape runner to add the panel to the card base.

For the inside of the card, I added a skinny strip of the Tranquil Teal to the left side of the inside panel, and added a Clear Glitter Dazzle Sticker Strip on top of the Tranquil Teal strip to add a little sparkle and shine without adding any bulk. The sentiment is from another Gina K Designs incentive set called Sketched Roses, and I stamped the Birthday Wishes stamp using Tranquil Teal ink.

Envelope for Square Card

I also made a coordinating 4 3/4 x 4 3/4″ square envelope for this card using the 1-2-3 Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers, Black Thin Line Dazzle Stickers, and Gilded Butterfly Dazzle Stickers on the back flap.
