Stack Cut Shuffle Cards: Graduation Edition

In today’s project, I made four easy Graduation Cards using the Stack Cut Shuffle Technique. I used Graduation paper from Recollections and Echo Park, and graduation stamp and die products from Scrapbook.com to create the cards. On each card, I changed the layout slightly to give a variety of card design options. All products used in today’s card tutorial project are listed below.

Wednesday Workshop | Sketches and Fun Fold Cards Series

This project is part of my Wednesday Workshop | Sketches and Fun Fold Cards Series. This series used to be published on Saturdays, but I have moved it to Wednesday for some mid-week card inspiration! I have a playlist on YouTube with all the past episodes if you’d like to check them out.

In this series, I find a card sketch on the internet and make a card (or more) using it. If making more than one card, the first one will stick closely to the sketch, while the others will have slight changes or demonstrate different techniques. I have added fun fold cards and one sheet wonders into the mix as well, so we have lots of creative options!

I have a Graduation Card playlist for more Grad inspiration, with lots of different styles of cards.

I have a playlist for all of my Stack Cut Shuffle cards, which includes both rectangle and triangle styles.

Stack Cut Shuffle Technique

After cutting the patterned paper stacks according to the measurements, it is time to make rectangle “packages”. For patterned paper Stack #1, leave as it is. Stack #2, move the top paper layer to the back. Stack #3, move the top two papers to the back. Stack #4, move three papers to the back; the original bottom piece should now be on top of the 4th stack.

Next, I went in order and took the top layer from each stack, and placed those rectangles on a mat layer. I did the same for the rest of the layers in each stack until I had four “packages” of rectangles. You can tell you have done this correctly if there is only one piece of each of the differently patterned papers in each layer. Please see the video for more information on how to make the patterned paper packages.

Assembling the Card Fronts

I glued the rectangles for each package on a mat layer cut from the Recollections Graduation paper pad. I used two silver glitter mats, one gold glitter mat, and one gold foil mat.

For the first card, I used the copy paper trick and added the rectangles to copy paper first, as all of the rectangles would be touching on this card version. This makes it so much easier to line up the pieces straight. Once the rectangles were adhered to the copy paper, I added the panel to the mat layer.

On the second, third, and fourth cards, I separated the rectangles a bit and glued them down with a small border around each piece of patterned paper. For the second card, I left that as a vertical/portrait card, and on the third card, I turned it to become a horizontal/landscape card.

On the fourth card, I used my Corner Chomper to round the edges of the card base, mat layer, inside panel, and outside corners of the patterned paper rectangles. These are four different design variations to easily change up your Stack Cut Shuffle card projects.

I added the card panels to A2 card bases cut from Recollections Black Cardstock.

Sentiment and Focal Images

To create the focal images for the card fronts, I first added Altenew Double-sided Adhesive Sheets to the back of the leftover patterned paper pieces, glossy white and black cardstock from Scrapbook.com, and gold glitter paper from the Graduation Paper Pad.

Using the Scrapbook.com Grad die set, I cut out the sentiment shadow layer from white glossy cardstock, the congrats and the cap from black glossy cardstock, the tassels from the gold glitter paper, and the GRAD from the patterned paper. Since all the die cut pieces were now stickers, it was super easy to layer and build the sentiment and graduation cap. Finally, I added the sentiment to the card front, and angled the cap above that.

Decorating the Inside of the Card

I cut inside card panels from Neenah White cardstock, then batch-stamped them using the “You Are Amazing” sentiment and graduation cap stamps from the Scrapbook.com Graduation stamp set. I added a coordinating strip of patterned paper to the left side of the panel to match the GRAD paper on the front sentiment.

Next, I adhered the panel to the inside of the card using temporary adhesive. I find this is easier for me, so I can remove and replace the panel if I mess up when writing my message without having to tear my card apart.
