Easy Ink Swiping Technique with 3D Embossing Folder

In this video project, I made a card using the new Gina K Designs Ruffled Blooms 3D Embossing Folder from the Floral Fix Kit. Check out the May 2025 Release from Gina K Designs to additional items available. All products used for this project are listed below. I made another card using the Ruffled Blooms Stamps, Dies, and Embossing Folder for you to check out as well.

Measurements
Card Base: 4 1/2 x 5 1/2" when folded
9 x 5 1/2", Scored at 4 1/2"
Eggplant Panel: 4 1/4 x 5 1/4"

Order of Operations Used: Emboss, Die Cut, Emboss

Card Instructions

For this card, I first embossed a card panel made from Recollections 110lb. White Cardstock using the Ruffled Blooms 3D Embossing Folder, and ran it through my Sizzix Switch Machine. Here’s a picture of what the embossing folder looks like:

After embossing, I swiped Versafine Clair Veri Peri ink lightly over the top of the raised images. I then swiped over the images again using a Versafine Clair Fantasia ink pad. The Versafine Clair ink pads are perfect for this technique as they have a flat edge and are not squishy. I then dried the panel using the Ranger Heat-it tool, as Versafine Clair ink is a pigment ink that stays wet longer.

Once the panel was dry, I cut out the floral image with the coordinating die. I then re-embossed the floral image using the embossing folder. This popped out the floral image again, and “erased” any marks on the die cut left from the die cutting. This die has bridges to hold the inside parts together, and sometimes these bridges can leave imprints in the die cuts, depending on the pressure of your die cut machine. Using the embossing folder again erases all the extra imprints and smoothes out the die cut once more.

Next I sprayed the floral die cut with a mixture of water and Perfect Pearls that I keep in a Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer. This causes the ink to move a bit, and adds a ton of shimmer and shine to the die cut. I then dried the die cut once again.

Finishing up the card

I cut a piece of Concord and 9th‘s Eggplant Cardstock to 4 1/4 x 5 1/4″, and glued the floral die cut to the card panel. I trimmed off any pieces of the floral die cut that hung over the panel edges using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Trimmer. The card base is 4 1/2 x 5 1/2″ when folded (9 x 5 1/2″, Scored at 4 4 1/2″), and was made out of Recollections 110lb. White Cardstock. I added some of my favorite Pinkfresh Iridescent Dew Drops to finish up the card.

Hope you enjoyed this card project!
