Crafting Awesome Masculine Birthday Cards
In this video project, I made a masculine Birthday card for my brother using the Tim Holtz Bold Saying Stamp Set, Kat Scrappiness Blue Glitter paper and Stitched Wacky Frames, Pear Blossom Press vellum, and Simon Says Stamp‘s Thread Plaid Embossing Folder and Birthday Basics Stamp Set. I also show how I decorated the inside of the card and the envelope. The style could easily be adapted to a more feminine look if desired. All products used in making this project are listed below.
Measurements
Card Base: 4 7/8 x 6 1/8"

Happy Birthday Panel
For the Happy Birthday focal panel, I used one of the lightest shades of the Kat Scrappiness Blue Glitter paper to heat emboss on. This paper is awesome as it looks like glitter paper, but it is actually a just a printed image. No mess!
I used Distress Oxide Ink in Tumbled Glass for the stamping, and then used Distress Embossing Glaze in Tumbled Glass for the embossing powder, and heat set it using my Chandler heat tool. Embossing Glaze is translucent when melted and whatever is underneath the embossing is visible. In this case, using the same color ink and embossing glaze really makes the color pop.
I wanted the sentiment to be extra shiny, so I stamped the sentiment again on top of the embossed image using Simon Says Stamp embossing ink, and used the Tumbled Glass Embossing Glaze for the embossing powder, then heat set it. The extra layer of embossing added a lot of shine and made the sentiment look like enamel.
After the panel had cooled, I used the Kat Scrappiness Stitched Wacky Frames dies to cut out the image. These dies are such a fun shape!
Heat Embossed Image Die-cutting Tip:
If you die cut an image after heat embossing and the image looks dull or flat, you can refresh the image using your heat tool. Apply the heat to the embossed image, and once the image turns shiny, move the heat tool to another area. You do not want to overheat the embossing powder or it will liquify and absorb into the paper. Just a quick blast from your heat tool will bring your image back to life.
Putting the Card Front Together
I chose a piece of white pearlized vellum from the Pear Blossom Press A2 Color Vellum Pack, and embossed it with the Simon Says Stamp Thread Plaid Embossing Folder. I love the way this turned out!
I added Altenew foam tape to the back of the focal image, in the 1/4″ and 1″ widths, both are 1/16″ in loft. I cut a background panel out of a darker shade of the the blue glitter paper, and added it to the card base, which was made from Simon Says Stamp 130lb. white cardstock. I added the vellum piece to that, and then added the focal image on top of the vellum.
Decorating the Inside of the Card
For the inside of the card, I cut a panel and added a strip of the blue glitter paper to the left side. I used a couple of stamps from the Simon Says Stamp Birthday Basics stamp set for the sentiment, using Distress Ink in Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire to make a two-tone stamping look.
Envelope to Match
I made a coordinating A2 envelope for this card using the 1-2-3 Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers, Recollections 12×12 Essentials Cardstock, and Papertrey Ink‘s Birthday Your Way stamp set with Uncharted Mariner Distress Ink. I added a 49 and Market Viken Rub-on to the front of the envelope for added decoration.
